Oracle presentation : EM12c (18 nov 2011)

Category : ORACLE-EM12c - by webMaster_alaindereninfo

Friday 18 nov 2011, it was a special day in Paris, organised by Oracle to show their last EM12c, in France, after the big event in Octobre in California.

The show was in 4 parts:
* The first two, presented in english by Richard Sarwal  (Senior Vice President, Product Development at Oracle).
* The two other in french.

At the beginning a nice video, presenting EM12c as the "core" entreprise wide solution to upgrade to the cloud and manage it.
And after, more classic presentation with some examples and powerpoint.

What to think?

Well, well, ...

* Very nice marketing view.
* Very nice tool to manage the (Oracle) cloud.

But:
1) As they explain, this tool is used by Oracle to manage the "Oracle Cloud", where companies can rent Oracle software.
So, to my opinion, this tool is perfect for ... Oracle. They create the most useful tool for them to manage their clients !

2) Specially, they said several time, that the tool had an internal billing system to calculate the power used by the deployed applications, and they can directly plug it to an external billing system.

3) The tool extends the feature of previous versions to manage a cloud (external, internal or hybrid), specially the virtual servers, and scan more datas from the OS. So it's very nice f the company have a cloud ! I would like to have statistics of how many companies roll this wonderful marketing features.

4) Also, EM12c have the goal to become the central tool to manage the cloud, so the entire infrastructure. Good luck !
For example, in "normal companies", (most of all companies in the world, except Oracle and a couple of others), in the unix team, the guys would laugh at you, and they said they will never to use this "piece of sh...". For them, Oracle is just a soft (among others, and not the center of Universe...) running on their marvelous server.

5) And, most of companies have software which are not sold by Oracle. To monitor them in EM12c, a plugin is needed.
Some plugins exist to monitor tools from the Oracle Partners (EMC2, ...). But I don't known (for the moment), if it's possible to create easily a plugin and to integrate it in EM12c. If so, EM12c is nice. If not, it's just another blackbox, where the client have to wait the good willing of the supplier to create an adequate plugin.

In conclusion:
It was a nice marketing presentation. But keep in mind the Dilbert word : "Marketing is evil !".
