CentOS installation
Category : PC-Installation - by webMaster_alaindereninfo
On my new laptop, I had a second hard disk, and I decide to install Linux CentOS 6.0 on it.
It was possible to install both system on the same hard Disk, but with this solution, if a hard disk crashed, I have still an OS on the other hard disk.
And why CentOS? Well to install Oracle, only Suse and RedHat are certified. Entreprise Linux from Oracle is just a packaging of RedHat with a new logo on it.
As CentOS is the free distribution of RedHat server professional version, I install this one to gain the possibility to download easily the package I need.
The distribution is coming on an ISO format, that I burned to a DVD.
As I said I don't have internal DVD, but external USB DVD. It's possible to boot on it at startup. So the install is working to some point...
But after a certain point the installer didn't recognize the external USB DVD. No way.
After searching on the web, it's normal. So I used this feature: "iso2usb" (links below) to install CentOS on an USB key. A 4Gb is to small to install the first DVD of CentOS, so a 8Gb, at least is required.
It's possible to boot on it, the USK key, is recognised as a Hard Disk, and the installation performs without problems.
It's a second ISO coming with CentOS 6.0 but I didn't use it !
So at startup, the Grub waits some seconds to select the OS I want to use.
Next step:
Starting Linux and Windows at the same time!
